Local youth can enjoy free food, music, extreme sports and have a say about the Torquay Road Skate Park at the ‘Bay Beats’ event in Pialba tomorrow from 10am to 1pm (Friday 22 September).

Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre will host the free event supported by Fraser Coast Regional Council and local service providers such as Headspace and Youth Justice are also attending.

Cr David Lee said Council staff would be at the event to engage with local youth about what they would like to see happen in the future with the Torquay Road Skate Park.

“Bay Beats is a fantastic free event for Fraser Coast youth with free pizza and music and some of our best local skaters and BMX riders tearing it up on the skate park,” he said.

“It also provides a valuable opportunity for Council to gauge how young people feel about the facility.

“We want to ask the community why they use the skate park, what they like and don’t like about it and what they would like in the future.

“Being able to collaborate with other youth services during the school holidays means we can meet with a large cross-section of ages in one place.

“A key focus for Council is to create connected communities through our places, spaces and people.

“We want to create vibrant community spaces that enhance the lifestyle and liveability of our region.

“Engagement pop-ups like this ensure we have meaningful conversations with the community to achieve great outcomes.”

The feedback gathered from the consultation period will be incorporated in a report that will be prepared and provided to a Council meeting later this year.
