A new community centre, a playground, environmental space, a community garden and storage for community groups are among the key features of the Glenwood Community Space Master Plan.

At its meeting today, Fraser Coast Regional Council endorsed the Glenwood Community Space Master Plan as a guiding document for future development in the area.

Cr Phil Truscott said Council had worked with the local community over many months to develop the plan.

“Around 2000 people currently live in Glenwood with the area expected to grow significantly over the next 20 years, so it’s important to plan for the future,” he said.

“This plan covers almost 4 hectares of land, including the land at 5 Pepper Road that Council purchased in late 2022 as well as three adjoining parcels of land in Pepper Road and vacant land in Varley Road South.

“A key feature of the plan is a new community centre including a dedicated space for the Glenwood Ladies Shed group, storage for the evacuation/respite centre equipment, bookable office spaces, a kitchen, flexible internal open space and external toilets.

“Other features include new storage sheds, a community garden, a footbridge and a natural area with a shelter, seating and fauna educational signage.

“Council has listened to community feedback and amended the draft plan to include a new playground, with the design and installation of a playground to be considered as part of Council’s 2024/25 budget deliberations.

“It’s important to understand that this is a long-term plan that will be advanced as funding becomes available within Council’s budget and as grant opportunities emerge from other levels of government.

“We thank all the community groups and local residents for participating in the community engagement process.

“Council is committed to providing connected, inclusive communities and spaces, and that’s at the heart of this plan. It’s all about building better communities together.”
