Andersen Avenue

A residential road in Urraween is getting a major upgrade to make it smoother and safer.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Denis Chapman said road reconstruction works has now started on Andersen Avenue between Christensen Street and Johnston Boulevard.

“Urraween is one of the most populated suburbs in Hervey Bay due to its proximity to hospitals, schools and shops, and the area continues to develop and grow strongly,” he said.

“This particular road has been identified to be in a state of severe disrepair in the Council’s asset inspection program as needing an upgrade.

“The $1.6 million road renewal will ensure a safer and smoother journey for everyone travelling along Andersen Avenue.

“The scope of works will include earthworks, full road reconstruction, replacement of existing kerb and channel, underground drainage works, and reconstruction of the existing footpath.

“Council is responsible for about 2700 kilometres of roads and footpaths throughout the region, and more than $40 million will be spent maintaining roads, footpaths, bridges, and drainage this financial year.

“Council is committed to effectively managing and maintaining our assets, and that’s what this Urraween road upgrade is all about.”

Traffic and pedestrian arrangements are now in place while works continue.

The project is being carried out by local contractors SGQ with works due to be completed by early September.
