Hervey Bay Pump Track targeted by vandals within 24 hours
The Hervey Bay pump track was struck by vandalism within 24 hours of the pump track being officially opened last Friday.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said someone had been captured on our CCTV camera doing burnouts on the newly laid grass at 7:36 pm on Saturday.
“This pump track is designed to be a safe and fun place for all ages to go and hang out at, so we are extremely disappointed that this has happened to our newest public facility,” he said.
“We installed CCTV and floodlights at the pump track to ensure the safety and security of everyone who visits.
“We will continue to monitor behaviour at the track to ensure it remains a safe and welcoming place for all visitors.
Cr Seymour said the incident has been reported to police and we encourage any witnesses to also get in contact with the Hervey Bay Police Station.
“The Hervey Bay Pump Track was officially opened last Friday allowing BMX riders, skaters, and scooter riders of all ages and abilities to test their skills.
“The Queensland State Government had provided a $1.3 million grant to Council through the Works for Queensland programme to design and build the pump tracks in Hervey Bay and Maryborough.
“The opening of this pump track follows the opening of pump tracks in Maryborough and Tiaro last year.”
