Burrum River Bridge - Changes in Speed and Load Limit

Back

The Burrum River Bridge is approximately 100 years old, the responsibility for which was handed over to Council from the State Government when the new Bruce Highway was constructed in the mid to late 1980’s.

Council has been monitoring the condition of the Burrum River bridge since hand over from the State and most recently commissioned professional engineers to undertake a Level 3 structural assessment of the bridge.

Following recommendation from Council’s Consultant to restrict the bridge to light traffic movements to ensure the short to medium term longevity of the Burrum River Bridge, Council will be introducing a combined speed limit of 40km/hr and 17 tonne GVM load limit for the Burrum River Bridge.

Signage on Council’s road network indicating the new speed and load limits are anticipated to be installed in September/October 2024.
