Queensland Youth Orchestra

Fraser Coast music lovers will have the opportunity to see a world-class youth orchestra perform in a free concert at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough on Sunday 15 September at 11am.

Queensland Youth Philharmonic is made up of about 80 of Queensland’s finest young musicians, ranging in age from 13– 24 years, under the baton of leading Australian composer, clarinettist and conductor, Paul Dean.

The musicians train as part of Queensland Youth Orchestras, meeting weekly to work with leading conductors and instrumental teachers, developing their skills and offering regular community performances, both in Brisbane and regionally.

Many orchestra members go on to make a full-time career as orchestral players.

Following the success of the 2023 concert, the orchestra returns to Maryborough with an exciting new repertoire.

The concert begins with Beethoven’s well-loved Egmont Overture, followed by the dazzling Bruch violin concerto performed by three outstanding young soloists: 1st movement: Liam Beak, 14 years old, 2nd Movement : Jemima Kelly, 17 years old and 3rd Movement : Alessandro Martinese, 13 years old.

The entertainment will conclude with Risky Korsakov’s timeless and magical Scheherazade based on based on the One Thousand and One Nights Middle Eastern stories.

This dramatic work is colourfully orchestrated to show off the full range of symphonic sound, including the harp.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour encouraged everyone to make the most of the opportunity to see some of the state’s most talented young musicians performing in our region for free.

“Council is keen to ensure the community has opportunities to appreciate arts, heritage and cultural diversity, and free music is an important part of the Fraser Coast lifestyle,” he said.
