Bargains galore as Garage Sale Trail kicks off this weekend
November is set to be a bargain hunter’s dream on the Fraser Coast, with our region ranked among the top five in Australia for Garage Sale Trail registrations.
Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Lachlan Cosgrove said more than 90 local individuals or groups have registered 169 sales and stalls for the Garage Sale Trail, taking place over the next two weekends (9-10 November and 16-17 November).
“Council is proud to be one of more than 80 Councils involved in this year’s Garage Sale Trail, which promotes the circular economy and the benefits of reuse,” he said.
“From everyday essentials to unique finds, this is the ultimate second-hand shopping spree.
Thousands of pre-loved items will be available across the Fraser Coast including fashion, furniture, homeware, books, art, antiques, collectibles, and electronics – all at a fraction of retail prices.”
Cr Cosgrove said the event is not only great for shoppers but also helps the environment by preventing thousands of kilograms of goods from ending up in landfill.
“The Garage Sale Trail is a fantastic opportunity to connect with your community, knowing that every dollar spent stays local,” he said.
“It’s also an important way to support the circular economy, keeping items in use for longer and reducing demand for new products
“On average, sellers make $457, and with up to three million items expected to be listed across Australia, thrifty shoppers can save up to 43% by buying second-hand.”
Cr Cosgrove thanked everyone who registered to host a sale or stall.
“There’s an incredible range of sales to explore, from Toogoom to Hervey Bay, Maryborough, and out to Maaroom and Poona,” he said.
“Council has also partnered with Reuse & Recycle Group Inc to host group sales at our tip shops in Hervey Bay on the two Saturdays (9 and 16 November) and in Maryborough on the two Sundays (10 and 17 November).”
One standout sale not to be missed is the Queensland Country Women’s Association Point Vernon-Pialba sale at their hall at 7 Torquay Road in Pialba.
QCWA Point Vernon - Pialba President Jessica Pearson said: “We’re joining the sale for the first time and we’ll be offering a range of quality second hand clothing including brand name items and some classic CWA baked goods.
"Last month, we raised $900 for Community Flights through a cake stall, and we're excited to see how much the garage sale will bring in so we can continue supporting our local community.”
