Citizenship Ceremony

Forty Fraser Coast residents will officially become Australian citizens during a special ceremony on Australia Day at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough.

Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the first Citizenship Ceremony of 2025 is a wonderful chance to welcome our new citizens and celebrate the values that unite our nation.

“Our new citizens are aged from just four years old to 71 and originate from 13 different countries of birth,” he said.

“Nine of our new citizens originate from New Zealand, six from the United Kingdom and South Africa, and the remaining from Australia, Canada, India, Sri Lanka, Finland, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand.

“It’s an unforgettable moment for everyone involved, from the new citizens pledging their loyalty to Australia and starting an exciting new chapter in their lives, to those of us welcoming them to our community.

"Our new citizens will bring valuable skills and cultural diversity, enriching our community through their contributions and active involvement in public life."

“Nationally, more than 20,600 people from over 150 countries have been invited to attend more than 380 citizenship ceremonies hosted by local government councils and other organisations as part of their Australia Day events program.

Cr Seymour said Council conducts several citizenship ceremonies each year, two of which coincide with Australia Day on 26 January and Citizenship Day on 17 September.

“Fraser Coast Regional Council held seven citizenship ceremonies in 2024, welcoming 410 new Australians from 51 different countries of birth,” he said.

“The citizenship ceremony will start at 8:30am with the Fraser Coast Australia Day Awards presentation to follow. The ceremonies are free and all are welcome to attend.”
