Maryborough residents and businesses will soon benefit from $1.35 million in road upgrades, with major works planned for Fort Lane and Saltwater Creek Road to improve driving conditions, drainage, and safety.

Work on Saltwater Creek Road (Woodstock Street to Hutchins Street) started this week and includes replacing damaged kerbing, fixing stormwater drains, and resurfacing sections of the road. The project is expected to be finished by April 2025.

Additionally, Fort Lane (Alice Street to Albert Street) will be fully rebuilt to make the road stronger and safer. This project is estimated to run from April to September 2025.

Member for Maryborough John Barounis said the Crisafulli Government was committed to supporting vital infrastructure delivery for the people of Maryborough and the Fraser Coast.

“We want to see rural and regional communities across Queensland thrive, which is we have made Works for Queensland a permanent funding program,” Mr Barounis said.

“Projects like this will not only help improve the liveability of local communities, but also support tens of thousands of jobs in rural and regional council areas.”

Fraser Coast Regional Council Roads and Transport spokesperson Cr Phil Truscott said the upgrades would ensure safer and more reliable road networks for residents and businesses.

“These upgrades will make these roads safer, help water drain properly when it rains, and reduce the need for future repairs,” he said.

“The $1.1 million Fort Lane project will create a stronger, longer-lasting road.

“The $250,000 Saltwater Creek Road project, as a part of the $1.75m Kerb and Channel replacement project funded under the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program, is expected to improve kerbing and drainage to help prevent pooling water and wear on the road.”

Traffic management will be in place during the works. At times, one lane of Saltwater Creek Road will be closed, and Hutchins Street will have a temporary closure between Saltwater Creek Road and Creek Lane.

A traffic management plan will also be developed for the Fort Lane works once the project is awarded to an external contractor.

Cr Truscott thanked the community for their patience while the work was completed.

“These improvements are essential to keeping our road network in top condition, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation while construction is underway,” he said.
