Fraser Coast residents are being encouraged to share their thoughts on the region’s transport future as consultation opens for the Fraser Coast Integrated Transport Strategy (FITS).

Fraser Coast Regional Council Roads and Transport spokesperson Cr Denis Chapman said the strategy would provide a 25-year vision to ensure the region’s transport network could support the growing community and economy.

“This strategy is about planning for how people and goods will move around the Fraser Coast over the next few decades,” Cr Chapman said.

“As our region continues to grow, we need to ensure our roads, public transport, cycling and pedestrian networks are safe, efficient and able to meet future demand.

“Council is working with the Queensland Government to develop this strategy, and we want the community to be part of the conversation.”

The strategy will guide transport planning and investment decisions for the Fraser Coast through to 2050.

A six-week community consultation period will run from 17 March to 25 April 2025. Residents can share their views via an online survey or at pop-up information stalls at local markets and shopping centres.

Residents can complete the survey and find more information at:

Cr Chapman said the strategy would consider all transport modes, including road, freight, public transport, active transport, air, rail, and marine.

“We’re looking at how our future transport network can embrace technology and innovation to improve accessibility, safety and economic opportunities,” he said.

“This includes investigating transport links between Hervey Bay, Maryborough and the Bruce Highway, as well as improvements to freight corridors to support manufacturing and industry growth in areas like Torbanlea.

“Future investment will focus on making our transport network safer, more efficient and better connected—whether that’s by road, foot, bike or public transport.”

Member for Hervey Bay David Lee said: “The Fraser Coast region is growing both in population as a result of the liveability of the community, and because we are transitioning the Fraser Coast to a Queensland powerhouse for advanced manufacturing and economic leader for energy transformation.

“To deliver this prosperous vision for the Fraser Coast we must ensure it has the right transport network to accommodate this.

“The Crisafulli Government is working with the Fraser Coast Regional Council to develop this key transport planning resource which will identify engineering and financially feasible priorities for the community’s future.

“This is your chance to have a say and this will ensure the right transport infrastructure is delivered over the next 25 years to support the Fraser Coast.”

Member for Maryborough John Barounis said: “I encourage everyone to complete the survey and provide their feedback because local input is critical in getting the right transport for our region’s future.

“Transport networks aren’t just about cars and trucks, they’re also about essential infrastructure including rail, bus, air and marine.

“All these modes of transport support our lifestyle in, out and around our central business districts to our dispersed community hubs, ensuring people in the Fraser Coast are connected to the services they need.

“I want our community to grow and I am pleased Fraser Coast Regional Council and the Crisafulli Government are working together to plan land use and transport.”
