Glenwood playground upgrade underway
Construction starts this week on a new all-abilities playground and recreation space at Glenwood, creating an exciting new place for local families and community groups to gather, play and connect.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said the $447,000 project had been shaped by the Glenwood community.
“This new playground will be a fantastic addition to Glenwood, featuring a multi-age play area, sports half court, shelters, pathways, and landscaping,” he said.
“We asked the Glenwood community to tell us what they wanted in their local park, and residents gave us great feedback through surveys, stakeholder sessions and a community and youth activity day.
“Our Council officers and I also visited Glenwood State School and met with every year level to hear from them about what they would like to see here.
“That input helped shape the design – which includes something for everyone – with all-abilities access, shaded seating areas, and connections to the community hall and parking area to make it as inclusive and usable as possible.
“This is about creating a safe, engaging, and fun space that brings people together and encourages healthy, active lifestyles.”
Key features of the new playground include:
- A combined multi-age play area with all-abilities access
- A multi-use sports half court
- New shelters and seating
- Shade sails, trees, and landscaping
- A floodlight to improve visibility in the open space between the playground and community hall
- A connecting all-abilities pathway to the community hall and car park
Construction is expected to be completed by late June, weather permitting.
The upgrades follow the adoption of the Glenwood Community Space Master Plan in January 2024. For more information about the community engagement process, visit: frasercoast.engagementhub.com.au/gwplayground
