What’s happening
The Urangan Pier will undergo restoration works to fix areas of deterioration. Different sections of the pier will be temporarily closed while the work is completed.
Why
Regular inspections showed that parts of the pier were deteriorating and need repairs to keep it safe and functional.
When
The works will begin on 28 January 2025 and are planned to finish by 4 April 2025, weather permitting. If delays occur, the pier will fully reopen for the Easter holidays, with work resuming on 23 April 2025.
Who’s doing the work
Timber Restoration Services has been hired to carry out the repairs.
How much will it cost
The project will cost approximately $1 million, funded by the State Government’s Works for Queensland Program.
Community impact
Parts of the pier will be closed during the restoration, which could temporarily affect regular users and visitors. However, measures like signs and notices will keep the community informed. The work is planned outside school holidays to minimise disruptions. Once completed, the pier will be safer and better for public use.
