Council is committed to providing you with the highest level of customer service including protecting your privacy.

Council will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the collection, use, disclosure and handling of personal information complies with the Information Privacy Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Principles contained in the Act.

What is personal information?

Personal information is any information about a person who can reasonably be identified from the information.

What personal information do we collect?

The personal information we may collect includes:

  • Name, date of birth, residential address;
  • Contact details such as postal address, telephone numbers, email address;
  • Digital media including photographs, video and audio recordings;
  • Payment information such as bank account or credit card details;
  • Details of your eligibility for services/functions (e.g., Blue Card, medical history).

If you choose not to provide certain information, we may not be able to provide you with the services you require.

How we collect personal information

We collect personal information in a number of ways:

  • Directly from you in either verbal, written or electronic form;
  • When you visit our websites;
  • From third parties including other Government agencies;
  • From publicly available sources of information.

How we use your personal information

Any personal information you provide will only be used for the purpose for which it was provided and for related internal Council processes. We do not disclose your personal information to anyone else unless:

  • You have provided your consent or we have told you we will;
  • It is required or authorised by law;
  • It will prevent or lessen a threat to someone’s life or health;
  • The disclosure is reasonably necessary for law enforcement, or for the protection of public revenue.

When managing your personal information, Council will take reasonable steps to ensure that all personal information we hold is securely stored. Council will strive to protect your personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access.

We take all reasonable precautions to ensure that the personal information we collect, use and disclose is accurate, complete and up-to-date.

The accuracy of that information depends to a large extent on the information you provide.  That’s why we recommend you keep us up-to -date with changes to your personal information.

Accessing your personal information

You are able to access information held by Council about you under the Information Privacy Act by filling in the appropriate form and returning it to a Customer Service office.
