Water Treatment Plant Upgrades

Teddington, Burgowan, and Howard Water Treatment Plant Upgrades

What’s happening: Major upgrades are underway at the Teddington, Burgowan, and Howard Water Treatment Plants to improve water treatment processes and ensure safe, reliable water services for the Fraser Coast community.

Why: These projects focus on enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of the plants to meet growing community needs. The upgrades at Teddington include a new sludge management system, while Burgowan is set for a $10 million upgrade in 2025, and Howard will receive improvements to its aging sludge dewatering equipment.

When: The Teddington upgrade is complete, while work on the Howard plant is expected to finish early 2025. Burgowan’s $10 million upgrade will begin in July 2025 and take approximately 12 months to complete.

How much will it cost:

    • Teddington: $6.5 million, including a $2 million grant from the Queensland Government’s Building Our Regions program.
    • Howard: Part of a $1.1 million project to replace aging equipment.
    • Burgowan: $10 million, with $4.5 million funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.

Community impact: These upgrades will provide more efficient and reliable water treatment, ensuring clean water for residents and businesses. The projects also improve sustainability by reducing costs, streamlining operations, and better managing the water treatment process. As the Fraser Coast grows, these investments will secure the region’s water future.
