ANZAC Park Lions Shelter Refurbishment

What happened

The Lions Shelter in Anzac Park, Maryborough, was refurbished to upgrade and improve its structure by replacing old materials, reducing maintenance needs, and increasing resilience to damage.

The work included replacing the roof and gutters, repainting, upgrading the brickwork with an anti-graffiti coating, and improving the flooring by sealing cracks in the concrete. Additionally, electrical systems were relocated, drainage was updated, ground levels were improved, and new turf was laid.

Why

The refurbishment extended the shelter’s lifespan, reduced upkeep costs, prevented vandalism, and improved safety by making the area easier to monitor.

When it was completed

The works were completed in June.

Who did the work

A local company, Heritage House Recyclers, carried out the refurbishment.

Cost

The project cost $86,000, funded through the Council’s 2024/25 Capital Budget.

Community impact

The improved shelter is now more durable, safer, and easier to maintain, ensuring it remains a valuable and inviting space for the Maryborough community.
