- Description

A memorial to Hervey Bay's founder has been built on the same beach where he came ashore more than 150 years ago. Mr Martin, his wife Sarah and their infant son rowed from Maryborough to Hervey Bay in 1863 and became the first European settlers to the area.
In 2013, the council officially named the area of the foreshore where they landed the 'Boyle Martin Landing'. The park at the Beach Road roundabout now features a prominent memorial to Boyle Martin.
Boyle Martin came here to harvest the timber, so it was relevant that the memorial incorporated timber.
