Council launches free online Jobs Hub

Fraser Coast employers and job seekers will be able to use a free on-line job matching platform tailored to the local job market with the launch of the Fraser Coast Jobs Hub.

“While the Fraser Coast has one of the highest unemployment rates in the State, feedback from the business community indicates many are planning to offer new jobs in the near future,” Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said.

“The new Fraser Coast Jobs Hub, launched by Council, will be one of the tools local businesses and local job seekers can use to match jobs and applicants.

“We believe that by offering a free option for business to advertise, more vacancies will be advertised leading to more employment in the region.”

More than 100 organisations including Councils and state governments across Australia, are using the platform and posting good results.

“We see some of the main benefits as improved connection between job-seekers and employers,” Cr Seymour said.

“It will open the range of jobs available; jobs that would not have previously been advertised because of advertising costs.

“Community organisations and jobs network providers will be able to use the platform to help job seekers to source jobs that match their skill sets, while students will be able to lodge their CVs to find local work experience and training opportunities.

“All jobs listed will also appear on the Australian Government jobsearch.gov.au website.”

Cr Seymour said that feedback from surveys undertaken by Council indicate that while the Fraser Coast has a high rate of people looking for work, businesses are struggling to find employees.

“About 67% of Fraser Coast businesses that employ staff have less than four employees,” Cr Seymour said.

“For those businesses the cost of recruitment can be prohibitive. Having a free alternative will help them greatly.”

The program fitted well with Council’s efforts to lower unemployment rates across the region.

“One of the four pillars of our Economic Roadmap is Education and Job Readiness,” he said.

“Our aim is the develop a strong, diversified, and resilient economy that supports growth and long-term employment. It’s all part of Council’s plan to build better communities together.”
