Local businesses embracing technological change will be showcased at a free event in Maryborough this month.

The CONNECT Wide Bay Burnett and Beyond half-day forum will be held at the Brolga Theatre from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm on Wednesday, August 24.

“At the forum, we will hear from local innovators who have embraced technology to redefine the way they live, work and play,” Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour said.

“The stories include Whalesong Cruises, which developed a virtual whale watching tour; the use of artificial intelligence to sort recycling and how drones and robots are changing the way we grow crops.

“The virtual whale watch is a great example. It was created so overseas travel agents could better experience whale watching to provide more information to clients.

“But there was also demand from retirement villages and people with mobility restrictions to use the immersive virtual experience so residents could also have a whale watching experience.

“By showcasing innovation, we aim to give businesses an opportunity to see how they could use new technology to redefine the way they live, work and play.

“NBN will also showcase its emergency response technology that can be deployed in disasters, such as the recent floods, so communities and businesses can be brough back online quickly.”

The free forum, which includes lunch, is being hosted by NBN Local and the Fraser Coast Regional Council.
