The Story Bank

The Story Bank will close for about five weeks from early February while its hail-damaged roof is repaired.

Fraser Coast Regional Council Director Strategy, Community and Development Gerard Carlyon said the Story Bank roof was damaged in a hailstorm that hit Maryborough in December 2022.

“Inspections after the storm have confirmed the roof sheeting needs to be removed and replaced,” he said.

“Council has been working through the insurance claim process, with repairs scheduled to start from Tuesday, 6 February 2024, taking about five weeks to complete.

“We anticipate reopening the Story Bank the week of 11 March 2024.

“The closure period is historically the quietest time of the year for visitors and allows for the Story Bank to be reopened in time for scheduled school visits and the Easter holiday peak period.

“Council apologises for the inconvenience, and thanks everyone for their patience while the work to repair the Story Bank’s hail-damaged roof is underway.”
