Maryborough Airport Land

Fraser Coast community and sporting groups are encouraged to apply to lease Council-owned vacant land at Maryborough Airport.

Deputy Mayor Paul Truscott said Council was offering leases for up to 10 years at a peppercorn rate of $1 per year with applications open from today (Monday 22 July) until Monday 30 September 2024.

“We have a long waiting list of community groups seeking Council-owned buildings, but currently, we don't have any vacant properties available. The next best option we can offer is land where groups can build what suits their specific needs,” he said.

“This lease opportunity allows organisations to create spaces tailored to their unique requirements.

“This particular block has its pros and cons. It will be especially beneficial for groups needing storage for equipment, or just an open space shed.

“While the site is surrounded by water, sewerage, and electricity infrastructure, these services are not directly on the site. Successful applicants will need to consider these connections if required, though it’s not mandatory.

“Groups may choose to build in preparation for future connections or operate without them based on their needs. Building works must also be completed within three years of the start of the lease.

“We want to see our public spaces used effectively and to provide a place to call home for community groups in need.

“By opening up this land, we hope to meet the needs of our community organisations, fostering growth and support for their invaluable programs and services.”
