City profile
Honiara is the capital of the Solomon Islands and of Guadalcanal Province, with an estimated population of 80,000.
Honiara is the Solomon Islands' springboard for tourism activities and is served by the Honiara International Airport, located about 10 kilometres to the east of the city.
The industry is in form of several beverage factories and a cookie factory. Major exports are timber, coconuts, copra and fish.
The most important trade partners are Malaysia, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
The climate is tropical with the average temperature around 28 degrees Celsius.
Current status
There is a Friendship and Partnership Agreement with Honiara and contact has occurred to the present.
In June 2011, 40 refurbished computers were sent to Honiara, under a program developed by Council's Sister City Committee.
